Heathland went up in flames once again as Dartford Heath caught alight for the sixth time in a matter of weeks.

Firefighters, who were called at 4.30pm yesterday, spent two-and-a-half hours tackling the blaze.

Six fire engines were deployed and crews extinguished the flames and dampened down hotspots.

Even despite rain in recent days, Dartford Heath remains a tinderbox.

No injuries were reported from yesterday's fire.

Just a matter of days ago, 25 acres of heathland were destroyed, while prior to that, crews were on the heath fighting another blaze and traffic had to be being held on the A2 due to the fourth fire there.

Just days before that multiple fire engines were called to the heath and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish a fire that had spread to around 400 square metres of grassland. No one was injured.

And the week before blaze engulfed a 100x100 metre plot, with seven fire engines and a number of support vehicles, including multi-terrain vehicles, were called to the site.

Further down south in the county, fire crews battled a woodland blaze at Hatch Park in Smeeth, outside Ashford.
