A road closure was put in place after horses ran loose onto a busy highway.

The incident happened along the A206 University Way, on the approach to the Dartford Crossing, around 11am this morning.

Traffic was brought a stop while efforts were made to coax the loose horses away from the busy road, near the Thames Road recycling centre.

The horses are believed to have escaped from nearby fields.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers attended and, to ensure public safety, enforced a brief road closure.

"All of the horses have since been moved to a safe location and their owner has been notified."

It is the second day of disruption after three horses were spotted dashing across Joyce Green Lane , near the Bob Dunn Way dual carriageway, yesterday.

Police attended that incident and managed to round up one of the horses, with the remaining two believed to have been safely relocated by their owners.
