Fire crews tackle Jeep blaze in Hextable Village, near Swanley after crash in Goss Hill

A fire ripped through a 4x4 left idly on the approach to Hextable village following a crash.

The Jeep was found ablaze on Top Dartford Road, near Swanley last night and fire crews were called shortly after 6.30pm.

On social media residents reported seeing thick black plumes of smoke from afar as Dartford Heath.

One villager, who lives nearby, went to check on the vehicle to see if anyone was inside.

"I ran out there and saw people driving past but no one really stopped," she said.

"As I got closer I could see smoke poring out so I ran back from it and called 999, then it went up.

She added: "It just kept popping and the windows blew out. There was black smoke blowing out everywhere.

"It just kept popping and the windows blew out."

"It's just so lucky no one was hurt. If I had hung about for one more minute I could have been stood there when it exploded."

One fire engine attended the scene and crews wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to put the fire out.

No injuries were reported and police were also called.

James Walker, Spokesman for Kent Police said: "We was called at 6.33pm on Thursday to a report a car had caught fire following a single vehicle collision in Goss Hill, Dartford.

"The fire was safely extinguished by Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the occupants are reported to have left the scene immediately after the collision."

Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
