Dartford Crossing to be closed overnight this weekend for maintenance work

Drivers are being warned to plan their journeys ahead of weekend closures on the Dartford Crossing.

The Queen Elizabeth II bridge (QEII) will be shut overnight today from 10pm to 5am as general maintenance work is carried out.

Then tomorrow overnight between the same hours, the east tunnel will be closed as work to update the CCTV system continues.

The tunnel will also be closed during the same hours for the rest of the week from Monday to Friday.

On Thursday and Friday the northbound carriageway between M25 junction 2 and the A282 junction 1a will be closed for bridge maintenance works at junction 1b.

This weekend marks the second of three that have been pencilled in by National Highways.

The third weekend will see the west tunnel shut on Saturday, April 22, and the east tunnel on Saturday, April 23.

During closures of the east tunnel, a clearly signed diversion for vehicles less than 4.8m high will be in place via the west tunnel.

An alternative diversion for vehicles between 4.8m and 5.0m high will be in place via the M25 clockwise.

During the closure of the QEII bridge, a contraflow diversion for southbound traffic will be in place through the east tunnel.

Drivers travelling north will be able to use the west tunnel as usual. For vehicles between 4.8m and 5.0m high, an alternative diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise.

During closures of the west tunnel, a signed diversion will be in place via the east tunnel.
