The 26-year-old, was later extradited from Tenerife after being detained by Spanish authorities.

Now he is to go on trial at Maidstone Crown Court on June 21 next year.

Knapp pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury to Callum Walpole by driving dangerously on October 11 last year.

His barrister Danny Moore told Judge Charles Gratwicke that Knapp accepted he was driving the vehicle that day.

His defence to the charges are likely to be made clearer after a conference between Knapp and his lawyers in January.

He also denied perverting the course of justice together with Samuel Dunn and James Shields between October 14 and 17 by leaving UK jurisdiction.

On a separate indictment he also pleaded not guilty to driving dangerously in August 2019 along Craylands Lane, Milton Road, Anes Road, Church Road and High Street, in Swanscombe.

He also denied assaulting a police officer, identified as PC Coveney, and handling a stolen Vauxhall Vivaro.

Knapp was detained by Spanish authorities in Tenerife on September 29 and, following legal proceedings, handed into Kent Police’s custody on October 26.

Knapp, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody until the next hearing on January 29 next year.
