A driver who collided with another car leaving a man with serious injuries has been jailed.

Adam Fisher, of Gore Road, Darenth, was travelling at speeds of up to 70mph when he collided head-on with another car in Darenth on Thursday, Februay 15 2018.

The 30-year-old appeared in Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday, April 30, where he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The court heard how the collision, also in Gore Road, happened at around 10pm when Fisher veered into the wrong carriageway, narrowly avoiding a collision with an oncoming car.

The motorist of that vehicle feared that Fisher had collided with a lamppost and turned himself around to offer assistance.

Once on the scene, the motorist saw that Fisher had collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The victim's car was forced into a ditch, it's driver drifting in and out of consciousness.

He was taken to a London hospital having sustained multiple injuries, including injuries to his leg, arm and head, which were later described as "life-changing injuries" by the police.

"It is entirely right that he has received a custodial sentence and I hope that other motorists will learn from the lessons of this case...’ PC Natalie Rowley

It was found that Fisher, who also required medical attention, had been drinking prior to the collision and was over the limit.

PC Natalie Rowley, the investigating officer for the case, said: "The sole reason for this collision was Fisher’s senseless decision to ignore the speed limit after consuming alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.

"His poor choice left an innocent man suffering the consequences of his actions. There were no mitigating circumstances; the weather was good and there were no defects with the road or either vehicle involved.

"It is entirely right that he has received a custodial sentence and I hope that other motorists will learn from the lessons of this case."

Fisher was sentenced to two years in prison.
