A new £150,000 super-playground is set to be unveiled in Dartford by the end of this summer.

The new attraction forms part of Stone Parish Council's £1.3 million revamp project at Stone Recreation Ground.

It will include sensory equipment and consist of zoned areas for pre-school, primary, teenage and disabled users.

Among the host of rides on offer will be new swing seats, a mini spacenet and a wheelchair carousel.

The final design was awarded to play equipment supplier Kompan after a public consultation ran earlier this year, generating more than 100 responses.

It was hoped the playground would be ready ahead of the school summer holidays but delays with overseas shipments has pushed work back a few weeks.

Completion is now expected around August 20, with an official opening event planned for the bank holiday on Monday 30.

Chairman of the council Lucy Canham said: “We are delighted to be delivering the first of many planned improvements at Stone Recreation Ground.

"The new playground is set to provide a fantastic range for all ages, including sensory and inclusive play equipment to ensure our children are well catered for.

She added: "It is regretful, but unavoidable, that the playground will be out of use for the first few weeks of the summer holiday while installation takes place, but we thought it would be beneficial to enable use of the new playground before children go back to school in September.

"Although we hope the playground will be ready a little earlier, we are looking forward to the launch event and hope local families will come along to enjoy the new facilities.”
