A revamped playground has opened at a popular country park as part of a £1.5 million project.

New climbing frames, slides and sensory play equipment have been added at Darenth Country Park, just off the A2 near Dartford.

The refurbishments were unveiled yesterday (November 9) by Cllr Jeremy Kite, leader of Dartford council and Cllrs Patsy Thurlow and Drew Swinerd, lead members for parks and open spaces.

The site was previously a run-down play area which has cost Dartford Borough Council over £86,000 to revamp.

The project is a borough-wide programme aimed at regenerating Dartford's play spaces.

Cllr Kite said: "Dartford is bucking the trend and continues to invest in play spaces and outdoor gym equipment.

"This is an investment in our local communities.

"It's great to see the changes at Darenth Country Park and I'm very excited to reveal even more changes over the coming months."

The revamped play area is part of a scheme by Dartford Borough Council to ensure playgrounds are fully accessible for all children.

The improvements follow refurbishments at Queens Garden and a new playground on the Bridge Estate in Dartford.

Plans to create "Bucaneer Bay" – a £1.2million pirate-themed play park set to open in early 2023 in Central Park, Dartford, were unveiled last week.

And there are also works under way at Jessamine Place in Stone with improvements expected at Worcester Park, Greenhithe, and Hesketh Park, Dartford.
