Floral tributes have been left at the scene where a 19-year-old man was killed in a bin lorry crash.

The cyclist from Dartford, named locally as Jack, was declared dead following the collision on Swanley Lane.

Police were called to the fatal crash which involved a council refuse lorry at around 11.30am on Wednesday.

Ambulance crews also attended but sadly the young cyclist died shortly after.

Flowers and a message of condolence have been left at the junction of New Road near where the incident occurred.

One read: "Darling Jack. So many memories, so much love. Shine brightly darling."

This morning neighbours described their shock as mourners continued to pay their respects and lay floral tributes.

Khatija Shaik, 39, heard a commotion outside as fellow residents rushed to the aid of the cyclist.

She said: "A lot of people were there and my husband as well but I don't know what happened.

"An ambulance came and the police. It is very sad, a young boy. I have never seen anything like this.

"I was shocked by what happened, because road works are going on it has been busy last four days."

Another Swanley Lane resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "Mum heard the accident and came to get me because I know first aid.

"But by the time I got there there were about three of four people doing CPR."

Sevenoaks council, whose refuse vehicle was involved, said: "The emergency services did all they could at the scene, but sadly, the cyclist passed away soon after the accident.

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the man’s family."

Police were reported to have spoken to various bystanders but are still investigating the circumstances of the incident and have urged witnesses to come forward.

Officers are also keen to talk with anyone who may have dashcam footage which may assist their enquiries.
