Two men charged after burglary in Dartford and assault on police officers

Two men have been charged after a burglary in Dartford and an assault on police officers.

Two televisions and two push bikes are reported to have been taken during a burglary in Shakespeare Road, Dartford, at around 3pm on Wednesday April 28.

Sylvester Chambers and Joseph Knight were arrested on suspicion of the offence later that afternoon and both men are alleged to have assaulted police officers while in Kent Police’s custody.

No serious injuries were caused.

Knight, 38, of Alamein Gardens, Dartford, has since been charged with burglary, three counts of assaulting a police officer, a racially aggravated public order offence against a police officer, causing criminal damage to a police custody cell, possessing a knife in a public place and an additional public order offence.

Chambers, 56, of Darenth Wood Road, Dartford, has been charged with burglary and assaulting a police officer.

Both men were remanded in custody to attend Medway Magistrates’ Court today. Both were remanded in custody and will appear at Woolwich Crown Court on May 28.
