Armed police shut Thornbridge Road in Deal after reported weapon seen

A road was closed by armed police this afternoon, with a helicopter spotted hovering overhead.

Thornbridge Road in Deal was taped off at both ends and onlookers described seeing officers carrying guns at the scene.

Police, some with shields, were seen going through people's back gardens.

Nearby residents were told to stay indoors as they dealt with the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 1pm to a report a person entering a property in Thornbridge Road, Deal, may have been in possession of a weapon.

"Officers attended the scene and searched the address and no weapon was located.

"No arrests have been made."
