Two friends who trained for over six seasons finally completed a walking marathon.

They marched 26 miles, raising more than £1,500 for breast cancer sufferers in the Virtual MoonWalk London.

Helen Twyman, 36, and Abigail Lawrence, 35, both from Deal, have trained almost every weekend for 18 months due to two postponements of the event because of the pandemic.

But last Saturday they completed the trek from Minnis Bay to Walmer RNLI station, in five hours and 50 minutes, braving rain.

At journey's end they were greeted with applause from family and friends and a well deserved glass of fizz.

They had taken the long route along the Thanet coastline and gone via Sandwich.

The women, who both work in education, trained with 14-mile round trip marches between Deal and Sandwich.

This including during the snow this February when they were both left with frozen hair.

The effort was for the charity Walk the Walk.

This group began in 1996 when 13 women walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer

The event, meant to be a one-off, blossomed into a multi-million pound charity, raising to date more than £100 million.
