A primary school has warned parents about a "sinister" and "deceiving" character which sings about killing and is being viewed by its pupils online.

The blue bear-like creature, named Huggy Wuggy, has long arms and rows of razor sharp teeth and features in YouTube videos for an online horror game.

One song, in which the character offers 'free hugs', includes the lyrics: "I could hug you here forever, till you breathe your last breath together."

Another line from the same song is: "My teeth sharp and ready, in my grasp yeah they're deadly."

In another song he invites people to "lean in for a spine breaking embrace".

Now, the head at Deal Parochial Primary School is warning parents over the content of the videos, adding that some children are finding them upsetting, and are even repeating the behaviour seen in the clips.

The letter says some children are offering hugs to their class mates, before whispering nasty things in their ears.

The school adds, that because of the 'cute' name, parental filters are not blocking the videos from young children.

The letter from head Justine Brown, which was posted on social media, reads: "It has been brought to my attention that a sinister character going by the name of 'Huggy Wuggy' is being viewed by our children online, some as young as Year 2.

"The character can be easily viewed on Youtube channels and is a rather sinister looking bear with razor sharp teeth that sings worrying songs about hugging and killing.

"We are seeing children recreating a game on the playground with hugging and whispering nasty things in the recipient's ear.

"It is a very deceiving character, as hugs should be seen as something kind and loving, and because of its cute name is able to infiltrate firewalls and filters.

"Please be vigilant about what your children are watching as children can become upset and confused by what they see."

The character of Huggy Wuggy appears to be from the cast of Poppy Playtime, a survival horror, logical puzzle video game.

Set in an abandoned toy factory, Huggy is a villain in the game who stalks the player from vents or unreachable places.

Videos of the game are available to watch on YouTube, with other clips dedicated to Huggy and his songs.

People in the comments on YouTube describe the animation as 'terrifying'.

Toys of the blue creation are also available to buy from Amazon.

It is not the first time schools in Deal have issued warnings over online content.

In October, two schools asked parents to stop letting their children watch Netflix's hit show Squid Game.

It came as youngsters were asking teachers to play some of the games in the South Korean show, which sees hundreds of people take on survival games for a huge cash prize.
