Dramatic footage shows the moment a car flies into the air after hitting a roundabout on the A2.

The vehicle ended up "on its roof" on the other side of the junction following the incident at Whtfield, near Dover.

Eyewitness Al James captured the shocking incident on his dashcam while at the nearby McDonald's drive-thru in the early hours of Sunday.

"I was on my way home from work and stopped for a coffee," he explained.

"While waiting for them to make it, I heard the sound of an approaching car on the A2 southbound, and then heard the screeching of tyres.

"As I looked in the direction of the sound, I saw the flash of a car, then it collided with the roundabout, creating sparks, and then disappeared high into the trees."

After a few seconds of shock, Mr James sprang into action, rushing to the vehicle while McDonald's employees called 999.

"It almost took me a couple of seconds to realise what had just happened," he added.

"I shouted into McDonald's to call all the emergency services and drove as fast as I could to find the car.

"I found it on the other side of the roundabout on its roof and I could only think of the worst – looking at the wreck and the trees it had hit to get where it was.

"I quickly blocked the A2 from Dover and turned on all my emergency lights and got to the car as quick as I could while calling the ambulance.

"The emergency services were great. I'd like to say thank you to them. I hope everyone involved is OK."

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called to a report of a single-vehicle collision on the A2 roundabout in Whitfield, Dover, at around 3am on Sunday.

"Officers attended the scene and closed one lane to assist the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"A 27-year-old man from Dover was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of Class A drugs and driving whilst unfit through drink and drugs.

"He has been released pending further investigation."

KentOnline understands no one inside the car suffered serious injuries.

SECAmb has been approached for comment.
