A fish bar manager says he has carried out the work needed to improve his takeaway after it received a shock one-star food hygiene rating.

Following an inspection last month, officials from the Food Standards Agency concluded 'major improvements' were needed at White Cliffs Fish Bar and Kebab Pizza in Dover.

The fish bar and kebab shop received a one star food hygiene rating

As such, it has been given a one-star rating, out of a possible five. The worst possible score is zero.

Three areas were inspected by a food safety officer on August 18, and since then details of the visit have been published online.

The report reveals that in the 'management of food safety' major improvement is necessary.

This could include system or checks in place to ensure food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future

Improvements were also needed in the 'cleanliness and condition of facilities and building' as this was not up to scratch.

This area of investigation looks at an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand-washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene must be maintained.

The restaurant, which serves fish and chips, kebabs, wraps, burgers and more, did however receive a 'good' rating for its 'hygienic food handling'.

This means the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food is hygienic.

Manager Nawshad Loudin claims the issues highlighted in the report have now been addressed.

This includes work to treat mould and retiling. He says necessary paperwork has also been put in order.

He told KentOnline: "We have done the work.

"I applied for a re-inspection on August 23 and I am now waiting for them to come over and do it.

"The council have emailed me saying they will do that but they haven't given a date as they would come unannounced.

"But I think they will do it soon."
