A vote on plans to expand an education centre has been deferred.

Members of Dover District Council's planning committee last night decided to first undertake a site visit.

The hope is the development will raise pupil numbers at the centre. istock image

That is expected to take place on September 13.

The application is for the Forest School Activities and Education Centre in Eythorne to put two new buildings on its site.

These would be for a classroom and catering unit at the site, Woodpecker Court in Wigmore Lane,in the hope of raising pupil numbers from 40 to 60.

On consultation a total 161 members of the public said they favoured the application.

They said that this scheme supported the local community and met an educational need.

Supporters added that the project would raise the profile of the area and the development was far enough from nearby properties.

But another 34 residents, plus Eythorne Parish Council, were against it.

They argued that the track is not big enough for two cars and that it is chaos at the end of the school day.

Other concerns included loss of privacy, increase in noise and general disturbance.
