Eyewitness David Wright said: "I was just walking towards the seafront when I saw a car and a truck crashed.

"The couple in the car have just come off the ferry to go home to Devon and apparently they felt the crash in slow motion."

How the car ended up being hit on its side is a mystery, with Mr Wright saying: "My best guess was that it must have happened at the roundabout and the lorry carried on.
