The reopening of a pier for anglers after four years as been stalled, as feared, because of stormy weather.

Dover Sea Angling Association had on Tuesday warned it might happen even though the Admiralty Pier was scheduled to be reused tomorrow (Friday).

But today it has been confirmed the pier to be shut from tomorrow until at least Sunday.

Storm Eunice is expected to strike tomorrow (Friday) and rail operators and highways chiefs are telling people to stay at home.

DSAA said in a Facebook post today: "Bad news but as expected, Due to the extreme weather and the Amber warning being in place all weekend, the Harbour Master has taken the decision to close the pier to angling all weekend.

"We will cancel the events on the website and everyone who has paid will get a credit into their DSAA account to use for another booking. Lets hope for better weather next week."

The pier had been closed to anglers since 2018 for reasons such as repair work and then the pandemic.

Last month landowners the Port of Dover announced fishing would return there and the reopening date would have been tomorrow.

Eunice is forecast to blast out winds of 80mph and the Met Office has an amber weather warning for 3am to 9pm tomorrow.

Weather conditions already deteriorated last light and the traffic control system Dover TAP was enforced on the M20 from Folkestone to Dover.

Ferry operator DFDS has reporting delays of up to three hours on its services from Dover to Calais.
