Bright clothes were worn to brighten up a town.

Members of Dover Pride wore striking gear on Saturday in the first of two Glad Rags and Bin Bags litter picks.

This one, with eight people, was at the town's Athol Terrace and nearby woodland.

The volunteers filled eight bags of rubbish in three hours.

The group did the work with a community clean-up duo Sea Gals Gulls, Finley Guy and Freyja Crow.

Frazer Doyle, chairman and co-founder of Dover Pride, said: “The litter pick was brilliant. We all got stuck in and literally had a song and dance about it!”

Perry O’Bree social media and PR worker for Dover Pride, said: “It was raining but no one could rain on our parade. It was so great to come together, dress fabulously, clean up and take pride in our town.

"This is a chance for Dover Pride and the local LGBTQ+ community and their allies to come together in a big clean-up operation."

The group has been particularly encouraged to take action after learning that Dover District Council had in seven days collected more than 40,000kg of rubbish between Whitfield and Eastry.

Dover Pride's second Glad Rags and Bin Bags session is from 11am to 1pm at the town's Pencester Gardens this Saturday.

Again volunteers are asked to dress brightly.

But to stay Covid compliant the numbers taking part have to be limited to two groups of six so those wanting to join need to register first.

Masks need to be worn during the work and people have to stay socially distant.

Meanwhile Dover Pride is planning its annual parade in the town on Saturday, August 28.

Legal restrictions on gatherings to guard against coronavirus are scheduled to be lifted by the Government on June 21.
