Hessenthaler made his name in Watford’s midfield, making 217 appearances in five seasons before joining Gillingham in 1996.

“I have a lot of great memories from my time with Watford and I was delighted to see them get promoted,” Hessenthaler told Dover’s website.

“I think it’s great for us as a club that they are going to send a team down to play us and I am really looking forward to it.”
