Three people were taken into custody following a 24-mile pursuit through east Kent, which left a police car with flat tyres after driving over a stinger.

Officers say not everything went 'to plan' during the chase, which started in Folkestone yesterday afternoon.

It carried on to Dover and eventually came to a dramatic halt in Canterbury in Vauxhall Road.

Three people - two men and a woman - were taken into custody for driving and drug offences.

But a police car had to be towed after its tyres burst going over a stinger during the pursuit.

A Tweet about the incident from Kent Police Ashford reads: "Three in custody for driving and drug offences.

"Ashford CPT started a pursuit through Folkestone, Dover and the offender eventually stung in Canterbury where it came to a safe stop eliminating any further risk to other motorists.

The post included three pictures, two showing the chase and one of the damaged police vehicle.

A spokesman for Kent Police added: "At around 2.50pm on Wednesday, January 27, a vehicle failed to stop for officers when requested to do so in the Park Farm Road area of Folkestone.

"A pursuit was authorised and the car was safely stopped in Vauxhall Road, Canterbury after officers deployed a stinger.

"A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and drugs offences.
