Ebbsfleet United midfielder Myles Weston impressed by his new club

First impressions are always important and Myles Weston likes what he sees at Ebbsfleet.

The 29-year-old caught the eye against former club Southend on Saturday and already looks a very shrewd acquisition by Fleet boss Daryl McMahon.

Weston arrived on a free transfer from Wycombe Wanderers last month and was a standout performer as Fleet held Southend, of League 1, to a 1-1 draw at Stonebridge Road.

"It was good," he said. "We definitely competed against them and didn’t look out of sorts even though they’re a couple of leagues higher than us.

"We definitely did well and it was a very good pre-season game.

"This is a very good club. It’s very ambitious and going in the right direction, which is one of the reasons why I decided to come here.

"The team, as a whole, is a very good team. I didn’t really know what to expect but getting promoted (last season) and knowing the manager and the players he’s brought in, you know which way he wants to go.

"It’s a very impressive squad. I knew a couple of the boys, Keds (Danny Kedwell) and Jack Payne (from Gillingham), Cookie (Anthony Cook) and Marvin McCoy.

"I did speak to them before I came but me coming in here, it’s impressive.

"The team he had here from last season, that got promoted, very impressive, and the signings he’s brought in this season, very impressive.

"Hopefully we gel together right and we can give it a good go.

"I’m just happy to be a part of that and I hope I can do the best I can for the club."

Weston started behind the strikers on Saturday before drifting out to the right wing.

So what's his preferred position?

He said: "Last season I played left wing, right wing and up front.

"Wherever the gaffer wants to play me, I’m happy and I’ll give my best regardless.

"I’ve been playing in the hole in pre-season and I’m happy to play there.

"If I’m picked to play on the wing, I’m happy to play there."
