Former Gillingham winger Myles Weston joins Ebbsfleet United

Ebbsfleet United have signed winger Myles Weston on a free transfer from Wycombe Wanderers.

The 29-year-old has spent the last decade playing in the Football League, twice winning promotion from League 2 with Gillingham and Southend.

He becomes Fleet's fourth summer signing and their third in a week following the arrival of midfielder Jack Payne and left-back Bagasan Graham.

Weston came through Charlton's academy and signed his first professional contract in 2006 but never broke into the Addicks first-team and joined Notts County in 2007.

After two seasons with them in League 2, he stepped up a division with Brentford, spending three years at Griffin Park.

Weston moved on to Gills in 2012 and that season was part of the championship-winning team which also included Ebbsfleet captain Danny Kedwell.

He helped Southend win the League 2 play-offs in 2014/15 and spent a season with them in League 1 before joining Wycombe last summer.

Weston made 16 league appearances, scoring three goals, as the Chairboys finished ninth.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said: "Myles came to me and was very honest in saying that the long drive around London each day was taking its toll and he needed to have the opportunity to spend more time with his partner and his two young children.

"As a manager, I would have liked to have Myles as part of my squad for the forthcoming season but as a dad myself, I know the importance of family.

"To be successful this year we will need to have the right environment with players who are happy and settled at the club, so we feel it’s best for Myles to make this move and we wish him all the best for the future."

Like Fleet right-back Marvin McCoy, Weston is an Antigua & Barbuda international.

He will meet his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday before Ebbsfleet fly to Portugal on Sunday for an intensive week-long training camp.
