Alleyway near Beach Street in Herne Bay cordoned off after 'wartime munition' found

An alleyway has been sealed off after a suspected "wartime munition" was discovered in the centre of a town.

Officers were called to the path that links Mortimer Street to Central Parade and runs alongside the Beach Street car park in Herne Bay just before 2.40pm.

After arriving at the scene, they taped off the alleyway as a precaution.

The Ministry of Defence's bomb disposal team has been notified.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Police are attending an alleyway near Beach Street in Herne Bay following a report of a suspected wartime munition was found.

"Officers were called to the scene at 2.39pm on Tuesday, May 14.

Police officers were photographed at the scene (10299157)

"A cordon is in place as a precaution and the Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team has been made aware."
