Work has started on building homes on a former school sports field in Deal.

Housebuilder Dandara says it is now starting construction on a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes at its Wingfield Place development in Freemen's Way.

Work has begun on the site in Deal

It will include a football pitch and clubhouse which Cinque Ports FC hopes to make its home ground.

Permission was granted in May 2020 for the site to be transformed into 88 homes.

Dandara acquired the site earlier this year.

The first phase of homes will launch off-plan in November, with a show home available to view next spring.

More than £700,000 will be ploughed into local infrastructure through Section 106 agreements - benefitting schools, health services and the library.

Potential buyers will be able to snap up homes off-plan later this year - with a show home opening next spring

The site was once the former playing field of South Deal Primary School which was sold when the school amalgamated with Mongeham Primary in 2006. It has stood empty and not in sporting use for more then seven years.

David Garrett, managing director of Dandara South East, said: “Our development at Deal provides a great opportunity to create an exciting new community in a beautiful coastal town, and will bring significant economic benefits to the area, including money towards local infrastructure."
