Kent County Council will receive £1.7million to help fund changes at Dover and Folkestone post Brexit.

It comes as the government shares £10million among councils in the south east of England.

The funds will help councils prepare for changes at the border, and help preparations for Operation Brock and the planned traffic management system for ports at Dover and at the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone.

Earlier today, port and industry chiefs expressed frustration over a government cash fund to help them prepare for when the Brexit transition period ends.

Other areas such as Ashford, Dartford and Thanet will receive additional funding to plan for localised disruption.

Local government Secretary Robert Jenrick MP said: “Ports are a crucial part of the South East’s economy, bringing jobs and investment to the area.

"As we end the transition period, they will continue to be a vital gateway, helping us maximise the opportunities of Brexit.

“The additional £6 million announced today will support ongoing work on Operation Brock and help a number of councils with their plans to manage local traffic, maintain roads and continue to deliver key services."
