The severe weather continued to cause problems this morning.

No further snow fell in Medway overnight but freezing temperatures meant many roads and pathways were covered in ice.

Thousands of children were getting a second day off with many schools reporting closures.

Some were planning to open later in the day to give staff and pupils a chance to reach their destination safely.

Yesterday's weather wiped out trains in the area and Southeastern is only running a limited service today.

They include a half hourly services from Ramsgate - Victoria via Faversham/Chatham, calling at all stations to St Mary Cray, Bromley South and Victoria

Half hourly from Dover - Faversham via Canterbury East and half-hourly from Gillingham - Cannon St via Dartford/Woolwich/Greenwich

Details are published on its website www.southeasternrailway.co.uk

A spokesman said this morning that mainline services from the Kent and East Sussex coast have started well.

But there will be no service on the Strood -Paddock Wood via Maidstone West line today. Cannon Street station in London is also closed.
