A horse was reportedly abandoned in a rural area, prompting an appeal from Kent Police for information about it's owner.

The animal was reported abandoned in Boughton Monchelsea yesterday, a tweet from the Kent Police rural team said.

The tweet added: "It has been seized by Kent Police. If you have any information as to the owner please call 101 quoting CAD 18-0161. DR"

A Kent Police spokesman said: "At around 7.20am on 18 May, the horse was reported to have been seen in the Wierton Road and Back Lane areas of Boughton Monchelsea. A member of public called to say they had secured it to a gate.

Officers attended and recovered the horse and took it to a place of safety, whilst enquiries were made to try and establish the owner."
