Maidstone man arrested after racially aggravated assault in Union Street

A man has been arrested after another man was hit over the head with a stick in a suspected hate crime.

Police were called to Union Street in Maidstone, between 11.45pm and midnight on Saturday, April 1 following reports of a racially-aggravated assault.

A man is alleged to have hit another man with a stick, causing head injuries.

The suspect reportedly shouted racist abuse at the victim throughout the incident.

On Thursday a 33-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on suspicion of assault.

He has since been released on bail to return to the police station on July 25, pending further enquiries.
