Car on fire in car park of Maidstone Aldi on Wheeler Street

A car went up in flames at a supermarket this morning.

Crews were called to Wheeler Street, Maidstone, after reports that a vehicle was ablaze in the Aldi car park.

The damage to the car, found in Aldi car park in Wheeler Street, is extensive

After arriving at about 6.30am, firefighters extinguished the flames at 6.40am.

Caution tape has now been placed around the car, which mostly suffered damage to its bonnet.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a car alight in Well Street, Maidstone.

"One fire engine attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

"The cause is not known. No casualties were reported."
