A main road in Maidstone will remain closed for nearly two weeks while a water company carries out emergency repairs to a collapsed sewer.

It is affecting the A26 Tonbridge Road in both directions between Bower Street to Bower Place.

The road will be closed until August 4

Teams from Southern Water are working to repair the sewer which collapsed just west of the one-way system, not far from Maidstone West Station.

A diversion is in place and is taking traffic along the A20 London Road and Hermitage Lane.

The incident was reported just after 11am and the road is not expected to reopen until August 4.
