Mr Orwin sustained fatal injuries after an incident in Bower Place at 6.30pm on Friday, July 31.

He was flown to a London hospital but he died of his injuries.

A second man, in his 30s, was also assaulted and was treated for his injuries.

Jonathan Purle, a Maidstone Borough councillor, who knew Mr Orwin described him as a lively character.

Cllr Purle said: “I first met him last year after a long week. He saw me looking exhausted in a corner of the Market House and shouted something like ‘Cheer up - it might never happen’.

“We then started a conversation and got through a fair few rounds that afternoon.

“He told me in February he was due to get remarried. I’m not sure when it was supposed to happen but I know the coronavirus affected his plans and it had been postponed to the middle of this month.

“He had plenty of stories to tell and was also a keen golfer. I remember meeting him once on his way to the pub still carrying his golf clubs. I did hear however that his garden-based golf practice was not universally welcomed by his neighbours."

Mr Orwin spent time in the States before starting his own company Peritum Associates, based in Rochester.

A trial date for Lance Colston, 36, who is charged with murder and actual bodily harm, has been set for January 11.
