Firefighters called to Friningham, in Detling, after woodchip fire

Firefighters have issued a warning to residents after large pile of woodchips caught alight near Maidstone.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Friningham, off the A249 at the top of Detling Hill, this morning.

Firefighters were called to a woodchip fire in Detling

People living nearby have been asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke from the fire.

One fire engine remains at the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus have been working to put out the fire by damping down hot spots.
