An Indian restaurant is offering free takeaway meals to emergency service workers.

Al Amin Tandoori in Union Street, Maidstone, is offering anyone with an appropriate identity card the complimentary option.

Manager Sunahor Ali said he would also donate and deliver meals in the coming weeks to staff working at Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

Last night the businessman gave away about 50 meals.

Mr Ali said: "Anybody working in the NHS or other emergency services are welcome to come here for a free meal.

"At the end of the day money is not important. We could all die tomorrow and these people are working so hard and don't have a chance to cook anything.

"The fact they can come home from work and have something hot and free to eat is very important.

"I also want to thank everyone for their loyalty."

Members of Mr Ali's family are also working on the frontline with a nephew and his brother-in-law working as paramedics in London.
