A lorry driver has been arrested after an elderly woman was run over in Maidstone.

Police and the air ambulance were called to Loose Road, at the junction with Heather Drive, at around 2.30pm on Tuesday after a woman in her 70s was hit by a while Volvo lorry with a blue articulated trailer.

The injured woman was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries and remains in a serious condition.

Kent Police have closed off Loose Road, Maidstone, after a pedestrian was hit by a lorry (15900976)

A 65-year-old man, from Italy, was also arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in custody as enquiries continue.

Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the lorry or the pedestrian in the moments leading up to the crash, or who have dash cam footage from the area that was recorded around the time of the incident.
