Stabbing in Maidstone town centre closes Lower Stone Street

A man was stabbed in the early hours of the morning in Maidstone town centre.

Police were called at 4am to a disturbance involving a large number of people in Lower Stone Street.

At around midnight police reportedly dove past a long queue of people waiting to get into a venue further down the street.

Witnesses said four hours later 30 to 40 people were gathered in the road.

One man was stabbed and lay motionless near the junction by block of flats Miller Heights as paramedics worked on him for a lengthy period.

He was taken by air ambulance to a London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The road was still sealed off this morning, between Romney Place and Wat Tyler Way. A diversion was in place via Romney Place.

The road was reopened just after 3pm.

No arrests have been made yet.

Anyone with information on the assault, or the wider disturbance, is asked to contact Kent Police if they have not already done so.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone with video footage, such as mobile phone recordings, CCTV or dash camera video recorded in the area at the time.
