A stowaway has been discovered in the roof box of a car at a motorway rest stop.

The man, described by Kent Police as “a suspected migrant”, was found in the storage space at Maidstone services on the M20 at around 10am on Monday.

A force spokesman said: “Patrols attended the scene where the person was detained and inquiries commenced with Home Office immigration officers.”

Following the discovery the driver of the car was allowed to continue on their journey.

Earlier this morning around 15 people came ashore at Kingsdown after crossing the Channel in a small boat.
