Police at flats near Willington Street in Maidstone

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault after a man was found with facial injuries in Maidstone.

Police were called at around 5am yesterday to the incident in Sutton Road.

Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene and a man was taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

The cause of his injuries are not known.

Soon after police were seen standing guard outside a block of flats in Willington Street.

The force spent most of the morning in position and an officer was still guarding the communal entrance in the afternoon.

The home is on the corner of Willington Street and Cheshire Road - part of which was coned off.

A man from Gravesend and a woman from Maidstone, both in their 40s, were later arrested on suspicion of assault and were taken into custody.

They have both been bailed to return to police on February 24.
