Some 2,565 homes across nine postcodes in Maidstone have been affected by power cuts.

UK Power Networks say the blackout, which started shortly after 3pm, was caused by an underground electricity cable fault on its high voltage network, causing an area wide power cut.

Electricity has been restored to most homes but 191 are still affected.

Engineers are on their way but it is feared power may not be fully restored until 6.30pm.

It is affecting areas from Eccles, Allington, Tovil, Shepway, Penenden Heath, the town centre and Weavering.
