It comes as Network Rail revealed the cutting is so steep, teams attached to harnesses and ropes had to descend the embankment to examine the damage.

The landslide happened on Friday and rocks hit the 12.55pm service from Victoria to Ashford International.

The track has been out of action all weekend with a rail replacement bus service running between Maidstone East and Ashford.

Southeastern said tickets are alternatively valid on Stagecoach bus route 10x, which serves the two towns.

Passengers have also been thanked for their patience.
