The second night of one of Kent's biggest fireworks displays will go ahead after last night's display was cancelled.

Thousands were expected to attend yesterday's event at Leeds Castle, Maidstone, but following heavy rain and winds of up to 60mph in the area in the morning organisers decided to call the event off for "safety reasons".

It was not the only display to be cancelled, as the weather saw yesterday's show at Kent Life in Sandling cancelled, while Folkestone Rugby Club called off their event today among others.

However, it was assumed that tonight's show at the castle would carry on, and the news was confirmed this morning.

In a statement, Leeds Castle said: "This evening's Fireworks Spectacular will go ahead.

"Please be advised that only people with tickets purchased for today, Sunday 3rd November, will be permitted access to the event.

"Anyone with tickets for Saturday 2nd November will not be able to get on site today, you will be contacted in due course regarding a refund.

The event is due to start at 5.30pm and kmfm Drivetime presenter Rob Wills is doing a live DJ set, while Breakfast's Garry and Laura will be there for the countdown.

Also going ahead will be the second night of the fireworks event at Kent Life in Sandling.

Yesterday's display was similarly called off due to safety fears following the bad weather.

It was announced that today's show would be going ahead, while yesterday's would be rescheduled to next Saturday (November 9).

A statement from the heritage park said: "It is with great regret that we will be postponing our fireworks event this evening.

"We have been in close liaison with our fireworks display team, and we have not taken this decision lightly.

"We are looking to reschedule to Saturday 9th November as we are unable to transfer the tickets to Sundays event, we will be sending an email with further details shortly.

"If you have tickets for Sunday 3rd November - this will still be going ahead as planned."

There are plenty of other firework displays also going ahead tonight; you can find a list of them here.
