Pupils and teachers in and around Maidstone have found novel ways of marking World Book Day.

Back for its 23rd year, the day encourages children of all ages to explore the pleasure of reading.

Our photographer has been out and about and captured some of the fun, including dressing up at Goudhurst Primary School.

Youngsters at East Farleigh Primary School dressed potatoes to look like their favourite characters, while at South Borough Primary School children wore costumes to demonstrate their favourite word.

Earlier today a top children's author shared his struggles with learning to read in a letter to Kent's schoolchildren.
