A school which closed for a deep clean following two cases of coronavirus has now reopened.

Aylesford School ordered all students to work from home on Tuesday and Wednesday after two pupils, one in Year 9 and another in Year 13, were found to have contracted Covid-19 .

The campus was thoroughly cleaned and has today welcomed students back.

Head teacher Tanya Kelvie said: "We are all open now, except to Years 9 and 13.

"Everyone else is back and attendance is good. We are really glad to be back and pleased with the way it is going."

Children in the affected year groups are now required to self-isolate until October 1 and the school is providing home learning for those students.

During the two-day shut down for the deep clean lessons shifted online to minimise disruption to the pupils' education.

Informing parents of the positive tests by email earlier this week, Ms Kelvie said: “I calculated that up to 15 members of staff may have been in close contact with the two affected pupils while teaching them a variety of subjects.

"I would like to thank our pupils, their parents and carers and my staff for their support and understanding during this extremely difficult time."

No staff at the school have been advised to self-isolate following the two confirmed cases.

At Maidstone Grammar School all Year 13 pupils have been ordered to self-isolate for 14 days following two cases being identified in that year group.
