The academy joins several other schools having to send year groups home after isolated incidents of the virus.

Executive head teacher Louise Lynch said: "We have sent years three and six home as we have a positive case in each year group.

"We have spoken to Public Health England who wrote the letter for us to send to parents.

"They gave us clear guidance to isolate for 14 days since the last time the children who tested positive were in school."

The children and staff members are due back on October 5.

Ms Lynch continued: "We are doing everything in our power to keep all children and staff in our school safe.

"We are functioning as well as we can do under these uncertain times and as far as I'm concerned we are still running a school and still providing our children with the very best education we can despite what's going on outside."
