Departing midfielder Callum Reilly has joined AFC Wimbledon.

Reilly agreed to a termination of his Gillingham contract after being told he would struggle for games by Steve Evans.

The Gills manager has signed a number of new midfielders this summer and Reilly has sought options elsewhere.

Speaking about his move to the Dons, he said that it was important to feel wanted.

In an interview with Dons’ website, he said: “For me it’s about playing and winning games. Being a part of something is also encouraging for me in terms of this club going places.

“The manager was massive in this after speaking to him, and there’s the new stadium next year, so it was things like that.

“Feeling wanted is important as well and the manager clearly outlined where he sees me fitting in. I was happy with that and it was a major factor for me.”

Callum was "surplus to requirements"

Wimbledon manager Wally Downes said: "We were aware of what he could do but Callum wasn’t available straight away. It’s good that we’ve got him because there were a few clubs after him.”

The Gills will meet Reilly and the Dons on November 23rd.

Reilly’s departure from the Gills comes in a week where three new arrivals have checked into ME7.
