Watford forward Alex Jakubiak joins Steve Evans' Gillingham on a season-long loan

Gillingham have clinched a loan deal for Watford forward Alex Jakubiak.

Just 24 hours after signing former Colchester front-man Mikael Mandron, the club have agreed a loan deal for the Watford player.

The 22-year-old joins on loan for the season.

Jakubiak has had a number of loan spells previously, playing for Braintree, Oxford, Dagenham, Fleetwood, Wycombe, Falkirk - where he scored five goals from 13 league starts - and most recently Bristol Rovers.

He played for Rovers in League 1 last season although the majority of his 44 games came off the bench. He scored five goals.

Gills boss Evans, speaking to the club's website, said: “Alex is a young man who I have seen many times, not only at Bristol Rovers against my own teams, but also for Watford’s U23s.

"He was a Scottish youth international, has good experience in League 1 and arrives here with a point to prove that he has a future with Watford at Vicarage Road.

"He is highly rated by Head Coach Javi Gracia and wants Alex to be tested further."

Lee Hodson: We must do better

Evans said the player had a number of options, from clubs in League 1.

With winger Nathan Thomas leaving just weeks after agreeing a deal, Friday's addition makes it 11 signings this summer for new boss Steve Evans.

It's unlikely he is finished there, either.
