Police and forensics at King George V Playing Field, Queenborough, Sheppey, after girl, 15, raped

A playing field next to a school and nursery has been sealed off after a 15-year-old girl was raped.

The investigation work has been at the King George V Playing Field in Queenborough.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Officers received a report that at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 29, a 15-year-old girl had been raped in a field near Edward Road, Queenborough.

"Officers believe the victim and suspect are known to each other and are treating the incident as isolated.

"No arrests have yet been made and enquiries are ongoing."

Two police cars were observed at the scene late this afternoon plus a forensics van.

KentOnline reporter Chloe Holmwood, who went to the scene this afternoon, said: "There is no cordon but two officers in the park are preventing people from entering."

Officers were seen leaving the area at about 5pm but the field had ben out of use for most of the day.

The field is next to Queenborough primary school and nursery.

Before it became clear why the police presence was there a tweet from the school to parents that said: "The park next to the school has bee cordoned off by police. This is not related to the school but we have been asked not to open the park gates this afternoon. Only the front gates will be open."
