Couple in their 60s attacked on The Promenade in Leysdown by man with a chair

A couple in their 60s are recovering after they were attacked by a man with a chair as they walked through a popular seaside resort early on Saturday evening.

Police say they are investigating a report of a man in being assaulted while he walked in The Promenade, Leysdown, at around 5pm.

Police are appealing for help following the incident

The victim is said to have been punched by a man in his 30s before being hit with a chair. He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

A woman, who was walking with the victim and is also in her 60s, is also said to have been assaulted with the chair by the same suspect. No serious injuries were reported by her.

The suspect is described as being white with a slim, athletic build and short brown hair.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is on-going by police.
