A dog was found wandering the streets in an “appalling” condition with overgrown nails and matted fur.

The female spaniel, who has been named Ramona, was found straying yesterday (August 3) in Queenborough.

Ramona was found in an 'appalling condition' and is not chipped

She is not chipped and is suffering from mange.

She also has “red weepy eyes” and is believed to have been bred from.

Swale Borough Council Stray Dog Service said: “This is prolonged neglect. Under section 9 (1) of the Animal Welfare 2006, a person commits an offence if they don't protect an animal from pain, injury, suffering and disease.

“There is no excuse for this kind of cruelty.”

Once Ramona has served her seven days, the service will start the process of finding her a rescue space.
