The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert tonight for rivers on the Isle of Sheppey.

The agency warns that flooding is possible for the Scrapsgate Drain from the B2008 to the sea, through Minster and Scrapsgate.

Flood warnings have been issued for parts of Sheppey

Also for the Warden Bay Drain from Bay View to the sea, including Warden and surrounding holiday villages.

The stark warning is "Be prepared!"

River levels have risen as a result of heavy rainfall this afternoon, with flooding expected to affect areas close to the river in Minster.

Fortunately no further heavy rainfall is forecast for today, but river levels will remain high this evening as a result of tide-locking.

The agency said it was closely monitoring the situation with incident response staff prepared to act if needed.
